insights & requirements

Before creating the product, I went into the field and spoke with people diagnosed with diabetes and with medical specialists, to better understand where the pain points of living with diabetes are.

I created a survey and obtained responses from 796 patients, who came back with their  key frustration. From these I made a list requirements for the product.

the product

An all-in-one finger pricker and blood test (for glucose levels), which reduces procedure time. It is user friendly, portable and small.

It streamlines the process using emerging technology and is available in various colours and can be attached to your keys or bag.

The all-in-one finger pricker and glucose meter has a sleek design which aims at removing the stigma around diabetes, thanks to its minimalistic or bright colours (for kids) allowing ease of carrying, lasting for 20 uses before the recharge has to be used.

user interaction process

With the current products existing in the market, the user has to carry up to 4 different components with them to test the glucose levels in their blood. Diablo allows for a streamlined procedure and a practical product which is hassle free. Thanks to its continuous lancet technology, the lancet is easily used and then disposed safely and the strips allow for easy testing.

diablo kids

To make diabetes an accessible topic for all and remove the stigma around it, the friendly and colourful design makes it child friendly.

Making it a product kids are happy to put on their backpack, showcase to friends and easily use.

the lancet dispenser

Placed close to the base of the Diablo finger pricker, is the lancet dispenser. Activated by a button, it releases a lancet, pricks your finger and returns it thanks to the recoil.

When the user needs to prick their finger again, it automatically switches to a new lancet (20 uses before change needed).

test strip dispenser

After pricking their finger, the user will need to test their blood glucose level.

A roll of 20 micro strips is present on a roll.

A new strip comes out when opening the protective cover. Tear it to use and then dispose. This mechanism is based on existing technology.
